Major Lazer In The HOUSE!

Sasquatch 2011 here in Washington boasted a TON of excellent artists that ranged the full gambit of musical genres, but few sets stood out like this one from Major Lazer (aka DJ/Producers Diplo and Switch).  Make sure you have some space to get down, because this set brings a bit of everything to it and is sure to get you on your feet. I’d like to thank NPR for capturing this recording of their live-set, because it’s EPIC. Hope you all enjoy it.

Every Other Way

This isn’t a new song, but its been one of those days that I’ve spent scrolling through old playlists and rediscovering some of the gems within them. Here’s a song originally done by BT, but this remix is done by DYM (Damn You Mongolians) and is simply magnificent. Hope you all enjoy the beauty within it as much as I do!

How The House Should Be Smashed

If you were to search this blog, then you’d know that I have an obsession with this brother duo – Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. Every since I heard their Tomorrowland set they’ve been sky rocketing their fan base and have begun their first ever U.S. Tour. Sadly they haven’t made it to the city of Seattle yet, but the clips from their shows in South Beach, Vegas, and L.A. showcase their ability to make shows astounding. Hopefully when these guys get a schedule for shows next year we’ll be able to track them down.

Stars Come Out

And BOY do they ever…  Check this teaser for Zedd’s killer new track ‘Stars Come Out’ being released through Dim Mak records on November 22nd.  Gorgeous vocals, beautiful drops and bangin bass.

UPDATED: November 22, 2011

The wait is over! If the teaser wasn’t enough for you, then that’s perfect, because it wasn’t enough for us either. Here’s the full version of the song and it’s an incredible track, so make sure to grab it off here and listen.

Protect IP Act

It’s a bill tailored by the the entertainment industry to try and stop pirating of music and movies on the web, but is positioning itself to disrupt how we use the internet day to day…

What our generation does on a daily basis would incur huge penalties, fines, and possibly jail time for simply trying to spread the music we love to the masses. Trying to hype new songs, artists, and albums would be infringements that give private corporations the ability to block OUR blog(s). It’s an unprecedented bill that is being fast-tracked through Congress in the dark of night and should be spread through the same facets that it’s trying to hinder!

Some more food for thought on this disturbing topic:

According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that’s for a fix that won’t work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.

We can’t just stand by, like the corporations are expecting us to… let us stand united and fight this together! Go to the website below and fill out the information it needs to help support the cause.

Raise Your Head

You can’t completely dislike the winter months, especially when you have all your favorite artists back in the studio producing new tracks. Here’s a brand new one from Alesso that should help you shake the cold and from what I understand he is currently making some new songs with The Swedish House Mafia Part II, or better known as Max Vangeli & AN21.

Hitting You With The Continuous Flow

This is without a doubt one of Europe’s hottest Drum & Bass artists and if you haven’t heard a lot about him here in the States, then it’s about time! Netsky has been making some huge waves out of Belgium with his tracks and this Essential Mix allows for you to get a real feel of how skillful he is at the turntables. Just listen and make sure you have a couple of hours to keep your feet moving!

This song is featured in his Essential Mix, but is definitely worth the solo download:

FreakNight 2011: A Night of Musical Mayhem

When explaining FreakNight 2011 to others, you find yourself stumbling for the correct words to adequately sum up this night of perfection. Incredible, mind-blowing, everything you ever wanted and more…the list goes on and on.  With a sold out attendance of 15,000 people, Seattle‘s WaMu Theater found itself engulfed in a night of musical mayhem.  To all of you that missed October 28th’s madness: THIS IS FREAKNIGHT2011.

An interactive production put on by Seattle’s USC Events, FreakNight 2011 stunned the Northwest with a hefty lineup featuring artists such as Tiesto, Dada Life, Cosmic Gate Felix Cartal, Feed Me, Pendulum, The Japanese Popstars and more.  Unfortunately featured artist Doctor P dropped out at the last minute due to personal conflicts and a number of cancelled shows.  Despite that, the night still proved to be more than successful.

From carnival rides, to game booths, to free swag and interactive circus performances.  Fire spinners, acrobats, trampolines, bumping lego trucks, costume contests, rock walls, endless bars and more USC stocked the event with plenty of fun that made the 8:00pm-4:00am event endlessly entertaining.  Additionally, an after party that lasted from 3:00am-8:00am at local Seattle club Volume kept the party going well into the morning.

One of our favorite moments of this year’s FreakNight would have to be Dada Life‘s hilariously entertaining set.  The duo dressed themselves in fat chef costumes and bopped around the stage, inviting anyone in a banana costume to join in their fun.  Inflatable bananas and champagne bottles, along with an abundance of energy surged through the crowd.  From ‘Happy Violence’ to their interpretation of Benassi‘s classic ‘Satisfaction‘, the entire venue found themselves doing the Dada.

Tiesto certainly lived up to his name and dragged the crowd alongside him on a roller coaster ride of sound.  He threw tracks such as Delirium‘s ‘Silence’ and Sneaky Sound System‘s ‘I Will Be Here’ and even a remix of Oasis‘Wonderwall’ into the mix.  With almost 15,000 fans packed into the crowd, it surged from the stage, up the bleachers and to the ceiling with an ecstatic, continually dancing audience.  To sum it up, Tiesto was 100% captivating.

On one of the smaller stages, Felix Cartal had the area packed.  With dozens of confetti cannons, fans were caught dancing in a confetti storm of sound.  Felix bopped around blissfully in a Max suit from ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ and looked like he was having just as much fun as his wild audience.  With confetti constantly swirling around, everyone was happily lost in the moment.

To end the night, Cosmic Gate was the perfect pick.  Their beautiful light sound had the crowd still going into the early hours, with fog cannons blasting and lazer lights flying around.  We couldn’t help but just sit back, rest and let their sound cascade over us.  Perfect, perfect way to end the night.

Be sure to check our more of the fun on USC Event‘s webpage where you will soon be able to find hundreds of photos and videos documenting this epic night!

All we have left to ask is: What did YOU think of FreakNight 2011.  All we can say now is that we are counting down the days to when we can get our tickets to FreakNight 2012.  Enjoy.

-The Usual Suspects

Overkill?

I think not! Especially when you fuse some Drum & Bass with a little 2-Step, then you get this track from Delta Heavy (which is very fitting given their name with the hard bass drops and DnB progression of the song). Just a little something to spice up your Wednesday and feed the palette just what it has been craving.

CRANK IT!

If there is any ‘change in the air’, then it would have to be from this new remix of Morgan Page‘s track ‘In The Air’ by Mord Fustang. Just one of the many reasons for loving the EDM scene is when tracks like this surface! Mord Fustang puts out an insane mix of a song you may love, or hate, and adds a completely unique feel to the track. This will do a lot of Morgan Page fans justice as well, so don’t just kick it to the back-burner and check it now!

Picking Your Monday Up

Mondays can always be the start of that slow push for the weekend. It seems to be never ending and it’s only just the beginning! This is true for most week starting Mondays…unless you live in Seattle. Well then it’s the peak of anticipation the day before Skrillex lands his Mothership Tour, which leaves only 3 days before the jaw dropping lineup of FreakNight! Here’s some music to get the anticipation to boil over.

This first track is a brand new Eric Prydz remix of the Digitalism song, ‘Circles’.

Circles (Eric Prydz Remix)

Now I know this song isn’t new, but it’s an absolute killer from Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike that hasn’t really been heard by too many.

Champagne Showers (Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike Tomorrowland Mix)

Up next we have a remix from Star One of the track, ‘Earthquake’. The original’s done by Labrinth and features Tinie Tempah (but this is one of the versions we prefer more)

The original to this song is getting a TON of airtime all over the globe, so it was just a matter of time before someone took it to extended cut! For the last song we have Chuckie with his extended mix of Calvin Harris & Rihanna, ‘We Found Love’.

Chuckie also released his full set from LIV Miami for free via SoundCloud today, but we’ve simplified even having to get it from there by getting it right here!

‘My LIVE SET from 22-10-2011 at LIV, Miami…
too bad that in this set the noise of the crowd isn’t recorded. Also, the microphone was connected on the main mixer so it didn’t record my voice, in stead you hear fades in the music.. but who cares…Real shitty live mixing included too! Hahaha! Enjoy!
Let me know what tracks you want ID’d..’ – Via Chuckie’s SoundCloud

BONUS:

In honor of Coldplay releasing their new album, ‘Mylo Xyloto’, here’s one of Avicii‘s new remixes to the track ‘Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall’.

UPDATE 10-25-11:

Why not add a little more House to the mix with a live set from the Double L’s himself!?
