Protect IP Act

It’s a bill tailored by the the entertainment industry to try and stop pirating of music and movies on the web, but is positioning itself to disrupt how we use the internet day to day…

What our generation does on a daily basis would incur huge penalties, fines, and possibly jail time for simply trying to spread the music we love to the masses. Trying to hype new songs, artists, and albums would be infringements that give private corporations the ability to block OUR blog(s). It’s an unprecedented bill that is being fast-tracked through Congress in the dark of night and should be spread through the same facets that it’s trying to hinder!

Some more food for thought on this disturbing topic:

According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that’s for a fix that won’t work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.

We can’t just stand by, like the corporations are expecting us to… let us stand united and fight this together! Go to the website below and fill out the information it needs to help support the cause.

Hitting You With The Continuous Flow

This is without a doubt one of Europe’s hottest Drum & Bass artists and if you haven’t heard a lot about him here in the States, then it’s about time! Netsky has been making some huge waves out of Belgium with his tracks and this Essential Mix allows for you to get a real feel of how skillful he is at the turntables. Just listen and make sure you have a couple of hours to keep your feet moving!

This song is featured in his Essential Mix, but is definitely worth the solo download:

FreakNight 2011: A Night of Musical Mayhem

When explaining FreakNight 2011 to others, you find yourself stumbling for the correct words to adequately sum up this night of perfection. Incredible, mind-blowing, everything you ever wanted and more…the list goes on and on.  With a sold out attendance of 15,000 people, Seattle‘s WaMu Theater found itself engulfed in a night of musical mayhem.  To all of you that missed October 28th’s madness: THIS IS FREAKNIGHT2011.

An interactive production put on by Seattle’s USC Events, FreakNight 2011 stunned the Northwest with a hefty lineup featuring artists such as Tiesto, Dada Life, Cosmic Gate Felix Cartal, Feed Me, Pendulum, The Japanese Popstars and more.  Unfortunately featured artist Doctor P dropped out at the last minute due to personal conflicts and a number of cancelled shows.  Despite that, the night still proved to be more than successful.

From carnival rides, to game booths, to free swag and interactive circus performances.  Fire spinners, acrobats, trampolines, bumping lego trucks, costume contests, rock walls, endless bars and more USC stocked the event with plenty of fun that made the 8:00pm-4:00am event endlessly entertaining.  Additionally, an after party that lasted from 3:00am-8:00am at local Seattle club Volume kept the party going well into the morning.

One of our favorite moments of this year’s FreakNight would have to be Dada Life‘s hilariously entertaining set.  The duo dressed themselves in fat chef costumes and bopped around the stage, inviting anyone in a banana costume to join in their fun.  Inflatable bananas and champagne bottles, along with an abundance of energy surged through the crowd.  From ‘Happy Violence’ to their interpretation of Benassi‘s classic ‘Satisfaction‘, the entire venue found themselves doing the Dada.

Tiesto certainly lived up to his name and dragged the crowd alongside him on a roller coaster ride of sound.  He threw tracks such as Delirium‘s ‘Silence’ and Sneaky Sound System‘s ‘I Will Be Here’ and even a remix of Oasis‘Wonderwall’ into the mix.  With almost 15,000 fans packed into the crowd, it surged from the stage, up the bleachers and to the ceiling with an ecstatic, continually dancing audience.  To sum it up, Tiesto was 100% captivating.

On one of the smaller stages, Felix Cartal had the area packed.  With dozens of confetti cannons, fans were caught dancing in a confetti storm of sound.  Felix bopped around blissfully in a Max suit from ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ and looked like he was having just as much fun as his wild audience.  With confetti constantly swirling around, everyone was happily lost in the moment.

To end the night, Cosmic Gate was the perfect pick.  Their beautiful light sound had the crowd still going into the early hours, with fog cannons blasting and lazer lights flying around.  We couldn’t help but just sit back, rest and let their sound cascade over us.  Perfect, perfect way to end the night.

Be sure to check our more of the fun on USC Event‘s webpage where you will soon be able to find hundreds of photos and videos documenting this epic night!

All we have left to ask is: What did YOU think of FreakNight 2011.  All we can say now is that we are counting down the days to when we can get our tickets to FreakNight 2012.  Enjoy.

-The Usual Suspects

Overkill?

I think not! Especially when you fuse some Drum & Bass with a little 2-Step, then you get this track from Delta Heavy (which is very fitting given their name with the hard bass drops and DnB progression of the song). Just a little something to spice up your Wednesday and feed the palette just what it has been craving.

CRANK IT!

If there is any ‘change in the air’, then it would have to be from this new remix of Morgan Page‘s track ‘In The Air’ by Mord Fustang. Just one of the many reasons for loving the EDM scene is when tracks like this surface! Mord Fustang puts out an insane mix of a song you may love, or hate, and adds a completely unique feel to the track. This will do a lot of Morgan Page fans justice as well, so don’t just kick it to the back-burner and check it now!

Get Through A Wednesday Our Way

Everyone enjoys having, or listening to new music and that’s because many songs can easily be played to the point of nauseousness. At this blog we  pride ourselves on never leaving an iPod/iTunes without new tracks to be played. Not just new tracks, but songs with the capability to keep you coming back for more! This Wednesday lineup appears to have all that

I truly am a fan of all these songs and like the hard-hitting Progressive House of Beta to the slower Tech/Deep House of Buoyancy all the way to the continuous Drum & Bass flow of Slaughter House (TC Remix). Whatever your favorite genre of EDM may be, there is a track for you here.

UPDATED 6:00 PM Wednesday:

With Wednesday just about over, why don’t we ‘Shake It Out’!? Here’s Benny Benassi’s take on how Florence and the Machine sound when headed out to the club (with some added bass drops of course).

Enjoy!

Cross The Line

I’ve found myself getting more and more into drum & bass in the past couple of months and I guess the real question is how could you not? Today Camo & Krooked just released their brand SPANKING new album across the pond in Europe and the teaser only leaves me salivating for MORE! These two Austrians will successfully bring any house down and then some… Here are a couple of videos that I found up on YouTube that are a must watch. The first one being their album debut show last week @ Brixton Academy and the second their ‘Cross The Line’ album teaser.

‘Cross The Line is everything you’d expect and more from the Viennese pair; a fourteen-track roller-coaster ride of emotions, veering between polished vocal-led beauties to filthy tear-out monsters, which firmly establishes Camo & Krooked outside the D+B sphere, as they delve into dubstep, drumstep, electro-house and everything in between.’ – UKF

This only leaves me with one question… when are these two coming to Seattle!?!?

Monday Melodies

Happy October!

Here are some Monday melodies to brighten your day!

First I have got a fun drum and bass track:

Danny Byrd – Tonight (Feat. Netsky)

Next I have a mashup that Kaskade just posted to his SoundCloud which he said he featured at Nocturnal:

Kaskade vs. Gorillaz – Steppin’ Out On Melancholy Hill (Max Vangeli and A21 Mix) (Kaskade Mashup)

Lastly I have Above and Beyond’s official video to “You’ve Got to Go” featuring Zoe Johnston

Knife Party

If you haven’t heard of these guys then get on it, because they’re gaining fans at an EPIC pace (and for good reason)! About a month ago, I posted a song of theirs entitled ‘Zoology‘ that not only features Skrillex, but has been getting some major attention. Since then, they’ve been hard at work, building up their music repertoire. With an upcoming EP titled “100% No Modern Talking” (featuring four brand new tracks) , an additional feature on Porter Robinson’s EP ‘Spitfire’ with a remix of the track ‘Unison’, and a new track with none other than Swedish House Mafia called ‘Antidote’; they have definitely been busy.

Still have no idea who I’m talking about? Maybe a little background on them will leave you pleasantly surprised. Knife Party is a new project of Pendulum duo Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen and it’s a project they’ve managed to keep very low on the radar. With this in mind, our fingers are crossed that Pendulum might drop a couple new tracks at Freaknight here in Seattle, less than a month from now. Can’t wait to see what happens, but until then we hope this collection of tracks will more than suffice!

Unison (Knife Party Remix)

Antidote

Zoology

Although all of the songs above give you a taste of what these two have to offer, why not just fully immerse yourself in Knife Party with their exclusive UKF Bass Culture artist mix and yes, it goes ridiculously hard!

New Music For Your Sunday

As always we try and bring you some of the newest music available, so that you the listener can check it out and enjoy what we are. Well, here are some tracks that we’ve come across from an array of different sources, but have a feeling that you’ll enjoy them. Now these are songs from all different genres of the EDM scene that, at the very least, you should listen to!

The first track is an amazingly uplifting Drum & Bass tune that will help keep your spirits up if they happen to be low, but is also just perfect to listen to anytime.

Alesso puts his own spectacular touches on this track and shows why he’s one of the great up & comers in the EDM community.

This is a track that’s been dropped by a whole lot of DJ’s this past year and of course there’s going to be some great remixes to it. This is definitely one of those great ones from the likes of John Dahlback.

A perfect song for mellowing out to. Whether it’s been a long day, long night, or you just wanted to put something relaxing on, then this is a perfect track. What else can we say, besides Anjunabeats Above & Beyond’s record label- knows how to pick great artists.

The last of our full tracks is a darker remix by Skream and fits the autumn weather and fits the fast approaching Halloween vibe.

The last two tracks we’ve got for you are previews of some songs that are fast approaching full-release in the month of October, but from the sounds of them they seem incredible!

Spencer & Hill & Nadia Ali – Believe It (Club Mix)

Pedro Henriques ft. Giuseppe Viola – Spread the Love (Digital LAB Remix)
